Cambria City Merger

On July 22, 2009, the five former Parishes in the Cambria City section of Johnstown -- Immaculate Conception, Saints Casimir and Emerich, Saint Columba, Saint Rochus and Saint Stephen -- merged into Resurrection Parish. The former Saint Stephen building is the worship site of the new parish. Rev. Alan E. Thomas is the Pastor.

Bishop Joseph celebrated an inaugural Mass at Resurrection Parish on Sunday July 26. During the Mass, the Bishop installed Father Alan as Pastor.

A prelude to the Mass featured the presentation of cherished items from the original six parishes of Cambria City. Each item will now hold a place of honor in the new parish.

Immaculate Conception (German heritage) presented a statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary that survived the flood of 1889. It was the only item in the Church not damaged or stained by the rushing water.

Saint Casimir (Polish heritage) presented an icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

Saint Columba (Irish and English heritage) presented a tabernacle and sanctuary lamp.

Saint Emerich (Hungarian heritage) presented a set of altar candles.

Saint Rochus (Croatian heritage) presented a statue of the Resurrected Christ.

Saint Stephen (Slovak heritage) presented a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Ethnic hymns and a procession of banners from the six former parishes accompanied brief narratives on the significance of each item. The six banners then gave way to a new banner for Resurrection Parish.
